All of the various All-Star games and breaks are now over and all of our favorite local teams were back in action on this, supposedly, unluckiest day.  We have at least one cross-town rivalry with the Railcats facing off against the Joliet Jackhammers.

For some strange reason the Kane County Cougars also took three days off, despite the fact it was not their All-Star break.  I am not entirely sure why, other than maybe as a break between the first and second halves of the season?  If you know, be sure to let me know.

THE NORTHERN LEAGUE

The Schaumburg Flyers

The Flyers once again faced off against the Kansas City T-Bones.  It took ten innings for this one to come to a conclusion.  The game had been knotted at two runs apiece until then.

FINAL SCORE:   Flyers  2         T-Bones    3

Gary Southshore Railcats/Joliet Jackhammers

It was an offensive output form the Jackhammers that helped Joliet win this one.  The Railcats, however, are still firmly in first place and looking to good for the post-season

THE FRONTIER LEAGUE

The Windy City Thunderbolts

The Thunderbolts started off the second half of the season right where they left off the first.  They finished the first half solidly in first place.  They played their first game after the All-Star break against the hapless Gateway Grizzlies and pounded the snot out of them.

FINAL SCORE:   Thunderbolts  18       Grizzlies 0

The Rockford Riverhawks

The Riverhawks were looking for a chance to come back after the break and win.  They went into the All-Star break with a loss and needed to come out swinging.  Fortunately for them, their first game was against the River City Rascals, who have been struggling this season.

THE MIDWEST LEAGUE  (AFFILIATED TEAMS)

The Kane County Cougars

Things unraveled for the Cougars rather quickly in last night’s game.  In the second inning seven runs from eight hits proved to be their undoing.  South Bend never looked back as they took down the Cougars after their return from the break.
