Folks, it is playoff time in the minor league baseball leagues.  Sadly, this means we have to say good-bye to many of the teams we have been following on here.  However, this also means exciting post-season action for some select teams.  As such, here are the scores and games from last night.

THE NORTHERN LEAGUE

The Gary SouthShore Railcats vs. the Winnipeg Goldeyes

It was a tight and close game for the Gary team.  Once again, defense and pitching came through in the clutch to provide the Railcats with the victory needed to start the series off right for them.  Gary managed to push four runners across the plate.  The Goldeyes kept it close by scoring three runs, attempting a comeback in the ninth inning.  It wasn’t enough and the Railcats squeaked by with the victory.

FINAL SCORE:     Railcats   4        Goldeyes    3

THE FRONTIER LEAGUE

The Windy City Thunderbolts vs. The Rockford Riverhawks

It was a game that started out shaky for the Thunderbolts.  The Riverhawks are veterans of the post-season and won the entire thing not too long ago.  So, for the first trip into the playoffs, the Windy City Thunderbolts seemed nervous at first.  Strong starting pitching was at play for  both teams.  It was a close match up all the way through and took 10 innings for an outcome.  In the end, it was the ‘Bolts who managed to crank out enough offense in the 10th for the victory.  This is the first post-season victory for the franchise.

FINAL SCORE (10-innings):    Thunderbolts   3         Riverhawks   2

That’s it for the baseball teams.  The Kane County Cougars did not make it into the post-season.  Of course, the Flyers and Jackhammers also failed to make it into the playoffs.
