The weather has turned quite nice here in Chicago. Although it is supposed to get warm today. Still, the baseball season is slowly winding down and it is really getting to be time to prepare for the playoffs in all of these leagues. Thankfully, no rain last night to muck up the schedule and to lead to more of those double-headers. They may be fun to see, but are kind of a pain to write about.
THE NORTHERN LEAGUE
The Gary SoutShore Railcats and Joliet Jackhammers
The Railcats really seem to have the Jachammer’s number right now. The Railcats have made it into the playoffs after winning their division for the first half of the season. They have struggled a bit during the second half and as JohnU stated, this is shaping up the playoffs rather interestingly for them. Right now, though, they seem to win at will against the hapless Jackhammers.
FINAL SCORE: Railcats 7 Jackhammers 5
The Schaumburg Flyers
The Kansas City T-Bones finally came back at the Flyers like the division leaders that they are. The T-Bones managed to score eight runs during last night’s game against the Schaumburg team. The Flyers did all right as far as offense as well, scoring five runs.
FINAL SCORE: Flyers 5 T-Bones 8
THE FRONTIER LEAGUE
The Windy City Thunderbolts
The Thunderbolts continued their winning ways against the Kalamazoo Kings last night. They managed to double up the score from the Kings, who plated two runners but then withered against the Thunderbolts’ pitching and defense. The ‘Bolts managed to score four and then hold off any comeback attempts by the Kings.
FINAL SCORE: Thunderbolts 4 Kings 2
The Rockford Riverhawks
Rockford did not fare as well against the Traverse City Beach Bums last night as it had the previous day. It’s hard to do when your pitching and defense gives up 11 runs. The Riverhawks managed to score five runs, but that wasn’t nearly enough to catch up with and beat the Beach Bums.
FINAL SCORE: Riverhawks 5 Beach Bums 11
THE MIDWEST LEAGUE (AFFILIATED TEAMS)
The Kane County Cougars
In previous games the Cougars had managed to limit the offense of the Clinton Lumber Kings. Last night proved to be too difficult for the Cougars’ offense, however. In fact, it was the Lumber Kings’ turn to limit the Cougars as they completely shut out Kane County. This is a feat not done too often against the Kane County team this season. This loss stopped the Cougars winning streak at five games.
FINAL SCORE: Cougars 0 Lumber Kings 9
