The holiday is upon us. Nothing quite like a three-day weekend to round out the summer. In the big leagues, around here, people are anxiously awaiting to see if the Cubs can continue their recent good luck and into the playoffs. Many are already predicting a World Series win, although that seems like a bit of a stretch.
At the same time, football season is just about here. The college teams will be playing very soon. The Bears are playing pre-season games and their first regular season game is mere weeks away.
For this weekend, the weather is predicted to be fantastic and it may be a good time to catch a great minor league baseball game. Here are the scores from games played last night.
THE NORTHERN LEAGUE
The Gary SouthShore Railcats
Once again the Railcats seem to have shown the Kansas City T-Bones who the real contenders are around here. Actually, this game was a bit of a close one. The Railcats managed to double the score that the T-Bones had put on the board, and then shut them down nicely to win the game.
FINAL SCORE: Railcats 4 T-Bones 2
The Schaumburg Flyers and Joliet Jackhammers
It was Joliet in command last night. The Jackhammers’ offense exploded for eight runs. The Flyers managed to score three times, but that was it. Needless to say, that wasn’t quite enough to beat the Jackhammers in this crosstown match-up.
FINAL SCORE: Flyers 3 Jackhammers 8
THE FRONTIER LEAGUE
The Windy City Thunderbolts
The ‘Bolts seem to really be gearing up for a run during the post-season. They completley man-handled the Kalamazoo Kings all week and then traveled to Traverse City to play the Beach Bums last night. It was another man-handling by the ‘Bolts who managed to score 7 while holding the Beach Bums to just two runs.
FINAL SCORE: Thunderbolts 7 Beach Bums 2
The Rockford Riverhawks
The Riverhawks were still making up for games that were rained out during the week of horrific storms the area saw not too long ago. This time they were in Kalamazoo and split the double-header, just missing by one with the first game and then shutting out the Kings during the second game.
FINAL SCORE (GAME 1): Riverhawks 6 Kings 7
FINAL SCORE (GAME 2): Riverhawks 2 Kings 0
THE MIDWEST LEAGUE (AFFILIATED TEAMS)
The Kane County Cougars
The Cougars also had to play a double-header last night to make up games with the Beloit Snappers. The Snappers are headed into the playoffs while the Cougars are fighting to continue their season into the post-season. They did a great job last night, sweeping the Snappers in both games.
FINAL SCORE (GAME 1): Cougars 6 Snappers 3
FINAL SCORE (GAME 2): Cougars 4 Snappers 1
