It was a busy day at the minor league baseball parks in and around
Chicago for Independence Day.
Most stadiums love to have fireworks displays on the 4
th and few of them disappoint.
For my money, the Schaumburg Flyers put on the best show.
OK, in case you were busy grilling, here are the scores and games from yesterday.
Northern League
Schaumburg Flyers
The Flyer continued their winning ways against the Calgary Vipers. They are playing a 5-game series against the Vipers.
Final Score: Flyers 12 Vipers 3
Joliet Jackhammers
The Jackhammers did not fare as well as their crosstown rivals, the Flyers. They were home, hosting the Edmonton Cracker-Cats.
Final Score: Jackhammers 3 Cracker-Cats 5
Gary Southshore Railcats
Gary did not fare much better on the 4th. They were facing off against the Fargo-Moorehead RedHawks. The win puts the RedHawks within one and one-half games of first place.
Final Score: Railcats 2 RedHawks 4
Frontier League
Windy City Thunderbolts
The Thunderbolts have been hot of late. They just finished up a 12 game winning streak. They started a new one yesterday against the River City Rascals.
Final Score: Thunderbolts 8 Rascals 5
Rockford Riverhawks
The Rockford Riverhawks won the whole thing a couple of years ago. They have a nearly brand new stadium as well. They played on the road for the fourth and lost to the Gateway Grizzlies.
Final Score: Riverhawks 5 Grizzlies 8
Affiliated Team
Kane
County Cougars
Cougars pitcher Trevor Cahill had a career-high nine batters struck out as the Kane County Cougars beat the Peoria Chiefs. They played at home in front of 11,085 fans.
Final Score: Cougars 3 Chiefs 1
