The weather continues to be fairly nice around the Chicago area, so that means it continues to be perfect baseball weather.  As far as the big league team go around here, most people seem excited about how well the Cubs have been playing as of late.  For those of us who are Sox fans, however, it is definitely time to start focusing on the minor league teams, or to start reading the new “Harry Potter” book.

THE NORTHERN LEAGUE

Gary SouthShore Railcats and Schaumburg Flyers

The Flyers were the ones able to scratch out more runs this time aound.  Many Railcats fans are still glowing over a recent pitching performance from one of their aces.  The team is still very  much in first place and looks to be heading into the post-season.

FINAL SCORE:  Railcats  2         Flyers 4

The Joliet Jackhammers

It was a slug-fest at Silver Cross Field last night as Joliet faced off against Fargo-Moorehead.  Despite plating eight runners, the RedHawks were not able to defeat the recently-winning Jackhammers.

FINAL SCORE:  Jackhammers  11    RedHawks  8

THE FRONTIER LEAGUE

The Windy City Thuderbolts

The Slippery Rock Sliders have the worst record in the Frontier League.  There is nothing quite like facing the worst team in your league to really help boost morale and return a winning team back to its winning ways.

FINAL SCORE:  Thunderbolts  9     Sliders  4

The Rockford Riverhawks

The Washington Wild Things came into Riverhawk’s stadium looking for a win, and found themselves on the wrong end of a good ol’ fashioned butt-whipping.  The Riverhawks took batting practice against Washington for another much-needed win.

FINAL SCORE:  Riverhawks  10     Wild Things   1

THE MIDWEST LEAGUE  (AFFILIATED TEAM)

The Kane County Cougars

For the second day in a row, the Cougars were able to defeat the Dayton Dragons.  The team had been a bit of a challenge for Kane County prior to this meeting.  This time the two teams exchanged leads several times before the Cougars were able to seal the win for themselves.

FINAL SCORE:   Cougars  5     Dragons  4
